Committee clears $515,000 telephony bid and $70,000 Cisco upgrade under NextGen grant

Staff (speaker 2) asked the Safety and Legal Affairs Committee to authorize two NextGen-funded technology actions: (1) a telephony/telephone bid for system upgrades with a not-to-exceed amount of $515,000, and (2) a Cisco network upgrade (switches/routers) not to exceed $70,000 charged to the NextGen 911 grant.
"Authorization requested to move forward with the ... Niagara County bid, not to exceed $515,000 out of our NextGen," staff said. The staff member told the committee the telephony work is fully grant-funded. On the Cisco request, staff said the procurement would use the Public Sector Omnia contract.
Both requests were moved and seconded and approved by roll-call votes. The clerk recorded affirmative votes from members present. The committee did not discuss additional local matching funds for the telephony item; staff said the telephony effort is covered by grant funding just under $1.4 million for related items.
Committee members asked procedural questions about procurement timing and vendor bids; staff noted one vendor had not yet returned a bid because it requires a defined location to produce a complete proposal. The telephony and Cisco approvals allow staff to move forward with procurement steps under the NextGen grant terms.
