Commission reports Egg Hunt turnout, readies senior luncheon and Atkinson Day; approves donation-drive letter

The Atkinson Recreation Commission reviewed recent and upcoming community events, approved a donation-drive letter and addressed several new-business items.
Organizers said the April 4 Egg Hunt involved Girl Scouts who helped stuff and hide about 2,000 eggs; approximately 120 children and about 200 attendees participated. Due to wet baseball fields, activities for younger children used the basketball court and pavilion. The commission highlighted upcoming Town-Wide Beautification Week (April 17–25) with free T-shirts, trash bags and gardening gloves available at the Rec office during business hours.
The Senior Luncheon is set for April 24 with an expected 80 seniors; Jack Costigan of the Lions Club will cook, the Garden Club will provide centerpieces, and the Atkinson Women’s Civic Club will contribute baked goods and volunteers. The commission approved a draft donation-drive letter and Noriko will obtain printing and fulfillment quotes.
Atkinson Day 2026 is scheduled for Sept. 12 with a Sept. 13 rain date; Noriko will seek a chairperson for planning. In new business, the commission budgeted $400 for a recreation logo design by Megan Walsh Design; a proof is expected in a few weeks. Commissioners Cris and Jim are exploring a possible women’s self-defense clinic; no details or dates were recorded.
The commission set its next meeting for May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Atkinson Community Center.
