The Magdalena Municipal Schools Board of Education on Oct. 20, 2025, voted unanimously to adopt Board Policy G-6140, titled "Job Abandonment." Board Vice President Kelby Stephens moved to adopt the policy, and Board Member Rachel Montoya seconded the motion; all five members voted yes.
The adoption came during the action-items portion of the regular business meeting. Board members also held second reading of proposed leave policies G-2550, G-2600 and G-3200 but agreed to table those items for further consideration at the Nov. 17, 2025 meeting.
Board President Lynn Major called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. The board conducted routine business earlier in the agenda, including approving minutes and the consent agenda. The minutes record that an executive session on threatened or impending litigation under 10-15-1(H8) NMSA 1978 took place later in the meeting.
The board did not include an effective date for G-6140 or additional implementing language in the minutes. The minutes also do not record amendments to the policy text or conditions attached to its adoption; those details, if any, were not included in the public minutes and were not read into the record.
