Resident, commissioners discuss allowing subdivision of multifamily lots into detached units
Summary

During commissioner reports the commission revisited earlier conversation about subdividing multifamily lots to allow detached units.
One commissioner noted the code currently requires a single roofline for multiple units in certain zones and said the commission already has an ordinance for common-wall (attached) units but not for detached-unit subdivisions. The commissioner suggested the city should consider adding a detached subdivision option so that the city retains local control rather than developers using condominium law to avoid local standards.
A resident speaking during the public-comment period identified himself as a property owner with multifamily lots in multiple zones and said he would be "very interested in the idea of potentially subdividing" attached units into detached units consistent with the city's general plan. He offered to draft ideas and email them to the commission for the next agenda; Chair Randy Johnson confirmed contact information and said the commission would place the item on a future agenda.
No ordinance or final direction was adopted on July 14. The commission asked the resident to submit written ideas and directed staff to place the topic on a future agenda for further discussion.
