Lyon County board approves new ambulance purchase, tables holiday pay change

The Lyon County Board of Supervisors voted 4–1 July 14 to select the Arrow Manufacturing quote for a replacement ambulance after Ambulance Director Amy Borman presented competing offers from Arrow Manufacturing and McQueen and compared price, specifications and warranties. Supervisor Birkey cast the lone opposing vote.
Borman told the board she wants the new rig equipped with seatbelts that meet CAAS certification standards. The board did not record dollar amounts or a delivery timetable in the minutes; the decision focused on comparing specifications and warranty terms.
Borman also asked the board to adopt holiday pay for ambulance staff at a rate she described as double the active and on‑call rate, saying it is currently difficult to staff holiday shifts. Supervisors discussed trying a holiday rotation first; Borman said she would like both a rotation and the pay change. A motion by Supervisor Doug Vanden Bosch, seconded by Supervisor Jerry Birkey, to table the holiday‑pay proposal until the next board meeting carried.
Next steps: the county will proceed with the Arrow Manufacturing order and bring the holiday‑pay proposal back for further consideration at the next regular meeting.
