The Marion County Board of Commissioners on April 8 approved a proclamation designating April 19–25, 2026, as Volunteer Week in Marion County following a presentation on last year’s volunteer activity.
Sherry Lintner presented the 2025 Volunteer Annual Report and, along with Elizabeth Hosie, Deputy Elsa Navarro and two Marion County Sheriff’s Office student cadets, joined commissioners for the proclamation reading. "Commissioner Bethell moved to approve a proclamation designating the week of April 19-25, 2026, as Volunteer Week in Marion County," the meeting record shows. Commissioner Kevin Cameron seconded the motion and the three commissioners voted aye.
The proclamation recognizes the county’s volunteer program and the contributions of community volunteers during the prior year. County staff placed the proclamation on the agenda under Health and Human Services; the commissioners read the proclamation aloud at the meeting.
The action was procedural and ceremonial: it affirms the board’s designated observance of Volunteer Week but does not, in itself, authorize funding or programmatic changes. No public comments were made on the proclamation at the meeting. The board adjourned at 9:27 a.m.
