Winside board elects Landon Grothe president after three ballots; officers and committees named

Landon Grothe was elected president of the Winside Public Schools Board of Education at the board’s Jan. 12 meeting after three rounds of paper-ballot voting.
Superintendent Jeff Hoesing called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., noted the posted Open Meetings Act and led the Pledge of Allegiance before the reorganization. Jon Jaeger nominated Grothe for president and Kate Falk nominated Diane Frederick; two initial paper-ballot rounds resulted in 3–3 ties. A third ballot produced a 4–2 result for Grothe. Jaeger moved and Zachary Brokaw seconded a motion to accept Grothe as president; the motion passed with all six members recorded as aye.
The board then filled its officer positions. Falk nominated Frederick for vice president; Tarrin Quinn moved and Falk seconded a motion to accept Frederick as vice president, and the motion passed unanimously. Falk nominated Zachary Brokaw for secretary; Jaeger moved and Quinn seconded a motion to accept Brokaw as secretary, and the motion passed unanimously. Falk nominated Quinn for treasurer; the minutes record a motion by Diane Frederick, seconded by Falk, accepting Quinn (the motion text in the minutes records "accept Quinn for Secretary" and appears to contain a typographical error; the board’s nominations and voting indicate Quinn was selected as treasurer).
The board voted to keep committee assignments the same as the prior year. Assignments listed in the minutes are: Building and Grounds (Jaeger, Grothe, Frederick); Transportation (Falk, Grothe, Quinn); Americanism (Jaeger, Grothe, Brokaw, Frederick, Quinn, Falk); Curriculum (Falk, Frederick, Quinn); Negotiations (Jaeger, Quinn, Grothe); Safety (Falk, Brokaw); Recognitions (Falk, Quinn); School Improvement (Jaeger, Grothe, Frederick); and Community (Frederick, Quinn, Falk).
President Grothe welcomed visitors and directed anyone who wished to address the board to the sign-in sheet. The meeting proceeded to regular agenda business afterward.
