The Sunset City Council and staff used a June 16 work session to finalize logistics for the upcoming Fun Days celebration, covering parade planning, vendor coordination, the car show, entertainment and fireworks safety.
Council Member Nancy Smalling reported the need to pick a Grand Marshal; the Council agreed to invite former Mayor Bangerter as the first choice and to identify alternates. Clearfield High School's new band director confirmed the marching band's participation with about 90 members expected. About 42 vendors had been approved for the event, including nine food trucks; organizers intentionally limited duplicate food vendors and assigned vendor locations using last year's layout.
Director Jason Monroe and staff reviewed event logistics: the contracted sound company will provide sound systems and technical support; tents for Administration, Public Works and Police will be city-branded; the Police tent will serve as Lost & Found; and a stormwater education display was proposed to satisfy permit public‑outreach requirements. T-shirts for 5K participants and staff had already been ordered.
Mr. Sam Bartling presented the fireworks plan and described an expanded launch and safety zone to improve setup and public safety. Bartling said the display would begin at 10:00 p.m. and explained two firing options: a hand‑lit show requiring more personnel but less setup time, or an electronically fired show that requires additional setup time but fewer staff. Council members and staff agreed to cap car show participation where necessary to keep the fireworks staging area clear and to mark restricted areas with cones and caution tape.
Other details: about 47 vehicles had registered so far for the car show; the community breakfast supplies and volunteer shifts were reviewed; the movie selected by public poll was Super Mario Galaxy; and Public Works will relocate bleachers to improve spectator shade for Friday's skate competition. The work session concluded with finalization of assignments and a plan to distribute an updated planning spreadsheet to participants.
No formal Council action was required during the work session; staff will continue with implementation and final on‑site preparations for Fun Days.
