The River Bluff Mayor-Commission Board voted unanimously on April 28 to amend the 2025–26 budget to cover higher-than-expected plowing and snow-removal costs, and the board held first readings of the fiscal year 2026–27 budget and a taxing ordinance.
Why it matters: The amendment adjusts the current fiscal-year books to reflect winter maintenance costs that exceeded projections; the first readings begin the formal process for next year’s budget and tax schedule.
Clerk and treasurer Katie Buhts presented the amended 2025–2026 budget, explaining increased costs for plowing and snow removal this winter. Commissioner Lynn Grossman moved to amend the budget as presented; Commissioner Lee Stanley seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Bryan Dillon, Lynn Grossman, Lee Stanley and Paulette Bryant voting yea; no nays were recorded and the motion passed unanimously.
Following the amendment, Buhts presented the proposed 2026–2027 budget worksheet and the board conducted the ordinance’s first reading. Buhts then presented the taxing ordinance and noted the city’s tax rate will remain unchanged for the next fiscal year. Commissioner Grossman urged the board to consider rising expenses and the possibility of a tax increase next year; no change was adopted at the first reading stage.
Next steps: The first readings advance the budget and taxing ordinance for later consideration; the board may schedule further review and subsequent readings before final adoption.
