The Webster County Board of Education on Sept. 22 approved routine consent and new-business items and completed a personnel slate after a meeting that included several administrative updates.
Under consent and new business the board approved multiple grant applications for Webster County High School programs, an MOU for CTE students to assist with a bike-trail project, and a purchase recommended from booster funds for athletics after staff said three bids were obtained. The board also approved an MOU with West Virginia Birth to 3 and placed a CTE policy (private-industry-experience credit, policy 3600) on a 30-day public comment period.
Personnel actions were approved after corrections to names and one pulled item; resignations and several service and extracurricular positions (including substitute cook and teacher-mentor roles) were listed and approved.
Superintendent/staff updates included a $1,400 quote to inspect the Webster Springs Elementary scoreboard (inspection only), district demolition legal advertising for a surplus building, a request for a roof estimate on the concession stand, and an accounting update for Child Nutrition funds: staff said the state had issued a $25,000 check that was being reconciled and would be re-sent after accounting review. Staff also said they believe they have reduced the projected cost of the bus-garage project by about $800,000 in preliminary estimates and that school-mapping work required by the legislature would begin Oct. 20. The board set its next meeting calendar items, including an Oct. 13 LSIC meeting.
Where specific votes were recorded: executive-session recommendations were approved 5–0, the selective donation items recorded a 3–2 result, and the remainder of consent and new-business items were approved by voice vote as "motion carries."
