Pellston council schedules July audit, approves $863,718.78 in bills and green-space events

The Pellston Village Council on June 8 set the fiscal year 2025-2026 audit for July 9 and approved bills totaling $863,718.78.

Councilmember Jane Ann Rose moved to approve the bills; Jackie Pierce seconded and the motion passed 5-0. President Jim Gillett announced the July 9 audit date. The council also approved Friday evening use of Village Hall for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on a unanimous vote (motion by Jackie Pierce, second by Steve Hall).

DPW Supervisor Art Massey reported the June 5 community tree-planting was successful and that maintenance staff continue routine mowing, watering and pothole repairs; new "Welcome to Pellston" banners are installed. Massey and Trustee Jackie Pierce will coordinate requests for crosswalk caution signs or other safety measures on US 31, although Massey said Michigan Department of Transportation typically resists traffic-flow changes on highways.

Committee and event items recorded in the minutes included a June 15 public hearing before the Zoning/Planning Commission on a Special Use Permit application by Peter Molosky for a property on south US 31; the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) plans a July 7 meeting and is seeking an additional member; Historical Committee events include a children's event on June 10 and an Elvis tribute performance by Jake Slater on June 12 in Memorial Park; Little League season is wrapping up. Fire Chief Randy Bricker said he is pursuing payment support from McKinley Township for first-responder services and is working with the village attorney on notice procedures for approximately 20–30 residents regarding ordinance violations.

The minutes record the meeting start as 7:00 p.m. in the header and show an adjournment motion carried 5-0 with the meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.; this is an apparent clerical time discrepancy in the minutes.
