Council agrees to draft deed for Friendly Corners building after ministerial alliance presentation

The Washington City Council on March 2 directed the city attorney to draft a deed to transfer the former Friendly Corners building to the Washington County Ministerial Alliance after a presentation from Alliance members who said the building could expand the nonprofit’s food pantry and provide flexible community space.
Pastor Jill Duis and other Alliance representatives described the pantry’s need for more space and said operating the pantry costs about $1,000 a month. Council Member Amy Anderson asked whether the Alliance intended to purchase the building; Duis said the Alliance would purchase if the price was right. City staff will find and provide information the Alliance requested about the property and building condition.
The council reached consensus on the deed direction and left further details—price, repairs and a formal sale or transfer mechanism—to staff and legal review. The Alliance members left the meeting at about 7:00 p.m.
