Commission gives Commissioner Ponder one week to secure contracts for building project; Collins to pursue general contractor if needed

The Ryland Heights Commission directed an expedited effort to secure contractors and materials for a municipal building during its Dec. 10 meeting.
Commissioner Jason Ponder said he had contacted Independence Lumber for a bid to supply materials and labor, engaged a designer, and reached out to an electrician and plumber for contracts, but was still seeking a contractor for concrete work. The commission agreed to give him one week to get contracts in place.
Commissioner Ralph Collins said that if contracts were not secured within that week, he would contact a general contractor to obtain the project contracts before Dec. 31, 2024, and the commission would call a special meeting if necessary to approve any resulting agreements.
No dollar amounts, contractor names beyond Independence Lumber, or signed contracts were presented at the meeting. The commission did not vote to award a contract at the Dec. 10 meeting; it set a short deadline for securing bids and contracts and delegated follow-up authority to commissioners.
