Ryland Heights commission approves $2,500 donation to elementary school for math programs

The Ryland Heights City Commission voted unanimously on March 11 to donate $2,500 to Ryland Heights Elementary School to help the school purchase math programs.

Commissioner Collins moved to authorize the donation and Commissioner Ponder seconded; the motion carried 5-0. The commission accepted Treasurer Rod Rigacci’s February financial report earlier in the meeting and heard that budget figures for the next fiscal year are due next month, information commissioners said informed their decision to approve the modest, one-time contribution from city funds.

School officials had requested the city’s help purchasing programs aimed at improving student math instruction. The commission’s action provides immediate funds; commissioners did not specify whether the payment is from the general fund or a particular line item in the city budget during the meeting.

The commission did not attach conditions or amendments to the donation; next steps are administrative processing of the payment and coordination with the school. The budget schedule returns to the commission next month, when staff will present the figures for the coming fiscal year.
