Ryland Heights commission approves routine reports, agrees mayor may pursue building contracts

RYLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — The Ryland Heights Commission met Nov. 12 at the municipal building and unanimously approved routine business while flagging two items for follow-up: a utility line relocation request and further contracting steps on a municipal building project.
Mayor John Cole called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and the commission confirmed a quorum with Commissioners Bowman, Collins and Claggett present; Commissioner Ponder was absent. City Treasurer Rod Rigacci presented the October 2024 treasurer’s report, which included bank statements, checking and savings balances and a budget-versus-actual summary. Commissioners asked questions of the treasurer; Commissioner Claggett moved to accept the report, Commissioner Bowman seconded, and the motion passed 4-0.
The commission reviewed correspondence including a Duke Energy email about relocating power lines at the Locust Pike property and an email from Best Way Disposal raising concerns that some residents are using a different trash collection service. Staff reported there were no permits issued and no open PDS violations for the period reviewed.
Committee reports covered routine maintenance and project updates. The parks committee reported mowing is finished for the year and the tractor will be serviced. The roads committee had no new items to report. The Veteran’s Affairs Committee said work on the memorial is ongoing. On the building committee update, commissioners heard that an engineer will meet this week to discuss placement and design; after extensive discussion the commission agreed that Mayor John Cole should “get everything possible under contract” to advance the building project.
There were no public comments during Privilege of the Floor, and the commission did not call an executive session. With no new or old business to conduct, Commissioner Collins moved to adjourn at 8:24 p.m.; Commissioner Bowman seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
