The Robersonville Town Council voted unanimously Monday to set a public hearing for Dec. 16, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. to consider using the Purvis Building for economic development, Town Manager Chris Roberson told the council.
Roberson told council members the proposal is being considered under North Carolina General Statutes § 158-7.1, which authorizes cities and counties to make appropriations for economic development purposes and requires the governing body to publish notice at least 10 days before a hearing. He recommended the council hold the public hearing on Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
Councilman David Jenkins moved to set the hearing for Dec. 16, and Councilwoman Debra Armstrong seconded the motion; the council approved it unanimously. Mayor Pro Tem Claudie Wilkins presided at the special called meeting; Mayor Tina Brown was listed as absent.
After scheduling the hearing, the council had no further business. Councilman Glen Cowan moved to adjourn; Councilwoman Chiquita Ward seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at Robersonville Town Hall, 109 South Main Street. Further materials or staff recommendations for the Purvis Building were not provided in the Dec. 2 meeting minutes and were listed as "not specified."
