Robersonville raises police pay to $48,000 amid recruitment concerns

Robersonville Town Council voted Nov. 12 to raise the base police salary to $48,000 after hearing from Police Chief Chris Garrett about staffing shortages and weekend coverage gaps.
Chief Garrett presented a draft schedule to add weekend coverage and a spreadsheet of recruitment options. He told the council that “with the raise we will have a better chance recruiting and not have Martin County to provide the Town of Robersonville coverage on the weekend.” Garrett said he will send Manager Chris Roberson a draft of the original schedule for staff follow-up.
Councilman David Jenkins moved to approve the pay increase and Mayor Pro Tem Claudie Wilkins seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Town Manager Roberson also reported there had been no recent applications for vacant police officer positions and said staff are exploring additional recruiting approaches and scheduling options.
The council recorded no dissent at the meeting. The council directed the police chief and town manager to implement the new pay schedule, pursue recruitment efforts and report back on coverage improvements.
