Robersonville — At the July 9 meeting, Town Manager Chris Roberson recommended the council hire a new finance officer to begin July 29, 2024, with a proposed starting salary of $93,316. Councilwoman Debra Armstrong objected to that starting salary while Councilman David Jenkins and Mayor Pro Tem Claudie Wilkins supported beginning the hiring process.
Roberson also updated the council on the towns use of Paystar for online payments, noting that because the town also collects funds for the Towns of Everetts and Parmele it is difficult to manage online collections across the three municipalities. Councilman Jenkins suggested focusing on Robersonville now and revisiting shared collections at the start of the next year.
During informal public comment, residents raised local service concerns: Cesar Dematta and Barbara Ward asked for trees to be removed on their properties; Shala Golan raised problems with yard debris and trash pickup and said her electric bill was higher this month and asked whether meters could be read on the same day each month; newcomer Telly LaFranque asked the council to consider more youth activities.
Council members also announced upcoming community events and asked staff for updates on ballpark bathrooms and a transformer. The council recessed the meeting to July 16, 2024.
