The Crawfordsville Board of Aviation Commissioners voted May 20 to ratify a grant application to replace the airport's Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS).
Airport Manager Lori L. Curless told the board the existing AWOS has reached the end of its service life and that the cost of repairing the unit exceeds the local match required for a new system. The board submitted a combined FAA and INDOT grant application requesting $381,052; the application includes a 2.5% local match of $9,523. Vice President Behling moved to approve the ratification, Commissioner Stath seconded, and the board voted unanimously.
Commissioner Stath asked that the replacement AWOS be configured to meet the needs of airport users including the local hospital, and Ms. Curless said the requested system budget aligned with recent vendor bids. Ms. Curless also said the grant application had been submitted on behalf of the board before the May 1 deadline.
Next steps: the board ratified the application so staff may proceed with the grant process; the board will review any award notices, matching‑fund logistics and equipment specifications when they are available.
