Residents and the town praised recent repairs to the Wellsville dam and its control structures during public comment, and the town manager announced an upcoming road closure and other operational updates.
A resident who spoke on behalf of watershed association members (Resident, speaker S1) said they inspected the work and thanked Jim Bennett and Dave Cloutier of BHB. “They brought an extra boulders, crushed stone, and from on high speed, it's, they really fortified it a lot better,” the resident said, adding the work should reduce spring backflow and the undermining that had damaged part of a road.
Town manager (speaker S8, identified in the agenda as the author of the “Town manager updates” item) confirmed the Wellsville dam repairs and said East Oxford Road will be closed from July 20 through Aug. 3 for roadwork; detours will be marked. He also said annual auditors will be on-site next week to review records, a small piece of equipment called a "mini plumper" was delivered and is being readied for service, and the town is recruiting more applicants for its comprehensive plan committee.
Why it matters: the dam repairs are intended to reduce recurring springtime erosion and road damage that can affect property and public safety. The road closure will affect travel on East Oxford Road for about two weeks and the town said it will post detour information in advance.
What’s next: the town manager said he has scheduled a meeting with the town attorney to prepare referendum language if the board decides to advance a marijuana‑licensing cap to the November ballot; the board will review draft language at its next meeting on Aug. 6.
