Multiple residents used the June 8 public-comment period to raise neighborhood safety and town transparency concerns.
Kay Stockton of Highland Street asked the council to investigate recurring basement flooding at her home; she told the council the sump pump cycles about every 17 seconds. Council President Joe Blevins and DPW manager Brad Cooper said they would visit her property to try to identify the source of the water and report back.
Jeff Downey said the meeting agenda was not posted to the town website until roughly two hours before the meeting, though the agenda had been posted on the meeting-room door as required. The council acknowledged the website posting delay and said staff would review procedures to improve timeliness and remote access.
Jason Allen, also of Highland Street, reported seeing a handgun at the town basketball court and urged exploring options to improve safety. Council members agreed to pursue installing power at the courts to allow cameras, and they also agreed to remove rocks along the court edge that players were throwing onto the playing surface.
Residents and some council members also raised concerns about poor audio for remote viewers of meetings; the council discussed possible acoustic panels or soundboard fixes and said it would investigate solutions.
The council adjourned after these public comments; follow-up items include DPW staff visiting Stockton's property, exploring power and camera options at the basketball court, and reviewing agenda-posting and audio procedures.
