Sterling updates: snow clearing, planned fire engine prepayment, infrastructure concerns and library vacancies

City Manager Ian Hutcheson used his report on Feb. 2 to thank Public Works, Electrical Production and Police staff for clearing snow and making streets and sidewalks safer after a recent winter storm.
Hutcheson and Fire Chief Brian Rife reported that the new fire engine chassis is complete and that staff and financing partners were finalizing arrangements; a prepayment would secure a $4,312 discount. Hutcheson said the First Bank team and city staff continue coordinating wire transfers to complete the prepayment.
In governing-body comments, Commissioner Richard Jones asked staff to note persistent stormwater pooling in the 100–200 block of E. Washington St. Commissioner Clint Bundy reported raised railroad ties on S. 1st St and encouraged follow-up with the railroad. Hutcheson said he has contacted the railroad previously and will follow up again.
Vice Mayor Todd Rowland requested an update on a house that burned on W. Garfield Ave.; Hutcheson and Chief of Police James Smith said a demolition-notice letter had been mailed to the property owner. Mayor Brian Inwood noted upcoming Library Board vacancies in April 2026; Hutcheson said the Sterling Bulletin will publish a notice and Rowland suggested temporarily waiving the two-meeting appointment policy to encourage applicants.
There were no executive-session items and the Commission adjourned following the remarks.
