Redington Shores parks committee sets Oct. 5 picnic, plans kiosk repairs and Council briefing

The Redington Shores Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee approved the Aug. 28 meeting minutes and set a community picnic for Oct. 5, members said at their Sept. 11 meeting.
Chair Loretta Fricks opened the session and recorded five members present. "The picnic is set for October 5th from 1-5," committee member Mary Gerst reported, adding the committee will meet Sept. 12 to continue planning. Gerst said the volunteer form has been revised to read as a general volunteer form rather than an application and that she will check whether volunteers must re-sign the form annually.
The committee discussed town information stations and kiosks. Fricks said Public Works plans "to remove any abandoned signs and repair any existing ones that are not in good condition," and she said she will explore having Tim Wellman of Creative Pinellas speak to the Town Council at the Oct. 30 workshop about beautification suggestions.
Members also talked about holiday decorations for future seasons, noting it was too late to add displays for 2024. Suggestions included concentrating displays in Constitution Park and enhancing Nature Park decorations after the undergrounding of utilities improves pole lighting.
On intergovernmental communication, the committee discussed ways to keep the Town Council informed of its work. One proposal was to request two brief (3–5 minute) presentation slots per year so members could report on projects and receive Council feedback.
The committee noted there will be no formal meeting on Sept. 25; the next Parks & Rec Committee meeting is scheduled for Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. The minutes were "Respectfully submitted" by Ginger McQuigg.
