Members of the Redington Shores Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee discussed aesthetic improvements to town message kiosks and broader streetscape issues at their July 31 meeting, minutes show.
The minutes record a suggestion to contact the Pinellas County Arts Council and Creative Pinellas for ideas to improve kiosk appearance; Bonnie Utz will contact Commissioner Shoos to ask whether Creative Pinellas can assist and, if so, attend a future meeting. One idea recorded was to "use the back side of the Kiosks to talk about turtles and other information about the beaches."
Committee members also discussed pole decorations along Gulf Boulevard. The minutes say the town does not own the decorations outright but pays a vendor to supply them. A recurring problem noted was burned-out pole lights that prevent decorations from functioning as intended; the minutes say the Commission will need to discuss whether to take action to correct the lighting. Ginger McQuigg asked for an update on undergrounding utilities on the west side of Gulf Boulevard and was told there is no timeline currently known; the committee put further work on that item on hold.
The minutes state that beach signage responsibilities have been turned over to the Town Commission for management going forward. No formal motions or deadlines on kiosks, decorations or undergrounding were recorded in the minutes.
