Sublette USD 374 board approves 2025–26 calendar, personnel moves and elementary gas-line repair

The Sublette Unified School District No. 374 Board of Education met Feb. 13, 2025, in the district administrative office and approved routine business and several action items, including the 2025–26 school calendar, personnel changes, and a repair to the elementary school natural gas line.
Board members approved the recommended 2025–26 calendar (calendar #1) after the calendar committee reported that 83.1% of faculty and staff favored that option. The board also agreed to host the middle-school High Plains League music event and approved dismissing grades 7–12 for an in-service day while PreK–6 attend a regular school day to accommodate hosting.
On facilities, the board approved a bid from Tatro Plumbing to repair an elementary-school natural gas line that has caused intermittent heating problems this winter. The district intends to have the work done over spring break to avoid disrupting kitchen operations.
Personnel actions approved by the board included acceptance of resignations from Tregg Rodrigues, Allison Rodrigues, Tracie Burcham and Johnathon Ornelas; hiring Matt Meng as assistant middle-school track coach, Vance Marlin as assistant boys golf coach, and Timothy Smith as MS/HS vocal music director; and a one-year extension of MS/HS Principal Sonya Pena’s contract. All motions carried by recorded votes of 6-0.
Administrators and principals reported school activity and assessment updates. MS/HS Principal Sonya Pena and Elementary Principal Rachel Lee each reported that 18 students qualified for the State Science Fair. Pena also reported TEAS testing results (one platinum, three gold) and noted the ACT test was rescheduled to April. Rachel Lee said a midwinter break coincided with a drop in illness-related absences, from about 68 students out to roughly 17 when school resumed.
The activities director said Sublette will host sub-state basketball and noted remaining regular-season contests; district staff continue planning for music and Quiz Bowl events. The board discussed deferred maintenance projects and asked staff to develop funding options and a plan in the coming months.
During executive sessions the board discussed non-elected personnel matters; sessions included Superintendent Rex Richardson and, at times, principals called into the session. The board reconvened in open session and completed the personnel votes listed above.
The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. and adjourned at 8:35 p.m. The minutes are not official until approved at the next regular meeting.
