Superintendent Rex Richardson told the Sublette Unified School District No. 374 board on Jan. 13 that the district faces extensive deferred maintenance, which he estimated at roughly $2 million.
Richardson said the district has been able to complete about one large project per year and cannot ‘‘get ahead of the curve’’ on repairs and upgrades. He asked the board to review a packet of proposed capital improvements and consider whether to pursue a small bond in the $3 million to $5 million range to accelerate work.
Board President Grant Webber and other members asked Richardson to gather more detailed cost estimates and financing scenarios before the board takes any steps. No formal motion to pursue a bond was made; the board’s action at the meeting was to direct staff to collect more information.
If the district pursues a bond, Richardson noted the timeline and next steps would require additional study and voter notification consistent with state law and district procedure. The board did not set a timeline at the Jan. 13 meeting.
The board reconvened to other business following the discussion; Richardson continued to compile information for future consideration.
