At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Sublette Unified School District No. 374 Board of Education heard multiple operational updates from principals and administrators and tabled a facilities project to gather additional vendor scheduling information.
Elementary leadership (identified in the minutes as Mrs. Lee) reviewed student proficiency progress, described tier and at-risk counts, outlined areas needing work, provided enrollment numbers and announced a "Meet Your Teacher" event for Aug. 26. Middle and high school Principal Sonya Pena reported enrollment figures and said she and two new teachers attended a career and technical education conference in Manhattan while staff work to finalize schedules.
Brooke Patterson, MS/HS curriculum lead, reported the middle and high school currently use different curriculum systems and said a grant-funded ICEV system will be used for high school students and integrates with Google Classroom. Patterson said the state released its list of approved evidence-based practices for the year, which ties to At-Risk funding eligibility. Renee Phoenix provided a teacher mentor/mentee list and noted a curriculum meeting scheduled for Sept. 6.
Assistant MS/HS Principal and activities director Lyle Befort gave current sports-roster counts: high school cross country 7, middle school cross country 1, high school volleyball 17, middle school basketball 22, girls' golf 7, high school football 33 and middle school football 5. Befort said the board and administration will work on options for sustaining middle school football participation. He reminded the board of the Fall Sports Preview on Aug. 24 and the Jamboree on Aug. 30.
On facilities, the board reviewed two estimates for replacing east high school entrance windows/doors and related asbestos/frame removal: Keystone quoted $73,260 and Kinney Glass quoted $74,720. The board tabled the matter to allow staff to contact each company for timeline information to guide the selection.
Superintendent Rex Richardson also reported that district water usage is down from the prior month due to more efficient watering schedules and that the City Council has expressed appreciation for the district's conservation efforts.
The board left the needs-assessment printouts for a first read; administrators described the document as the second year of a five-year accreditation-based plan and said funds are being directed toward priority areas.
