Upper Providence schedules trail-master-plan session with consultant Bob Thomas

The Upper Providence Park Board announced that Bob Thomas of Grace Planning will visit the board on May 13 to review a draft trail map and solicit public input on priority connections.
The board’s staff member Sue said Thomas’s firm was hired to “get creative and create those trail connections for us that we’ve had a hard time doing,” and that the firm will study which corridors carry the most traffic and why. The consultant will look for ways to link local park trails to the Schuylkill River Trail and the Perkiomen Trail and to suggest connections that avoid major disturbance.
Board members said local residents have long asked for better trail links from neighborhoods and parks to regional trails. The chair urged residents to review the township trail map at uprov.org ahead of the meeting so the board can provide informed feedback.
Sue told the board the consultant will provide data on high-traffic areas and recommendations for connections; the board and the township planner will use those findings to pursue partnerships and possible grant funding. The meeting will follow the township’s EAC meeting and the planning commission, and staff said they expect a longer discussion than usual.
The next procedural step is the May 13 public session with the consultant; the board will use that session to flag candidate connections for possible design or grant work.
