Wells Branch MUD votes to pursue release from City of Austin extraterritorial jurisdiction for East Side Nature Park

Studio 16:19 advised the Board that for the East Side Nature Park project Travis County development standards, particularly creek setbacks, would be more flexible than the City of Austin's standards. District counsel John Bartram said his office worked with consultant Matt Fuller and that St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church had expressed interest in participating in an ETJ release petition.
Director Moises Solis asked whether the City might react negatively to releasing the property from the City's extraterritorial jurisdiction. Bartram said District consultants and staff had not identified any material concerns and that he had posed the question to Randy Wilburn, the District's special legal counsel on City of Austin rate matters, who concurred.
After discussion, upon motion by Director Shelley Palmer and second by Director Kevin Ward, the Board voted unanimously to pursue the release of the Nature Park property from the City's ETJ. The Board directed staff and consultants to proceed with the petition process and to coordinate with any landowners who wish to participate.
