Administrator Kevin Reeve summarized a corrective action involving a former legislator: a complaint filed in 2012 and adjudicated in 2013 found an excess amount exceeding $18,000 to be repaid. The former legislator entered a payment agreement of roughly $100 per month. Staff tracked the outstanding balance for years, and as of December an outstanding balance of $1,100 remained. After the item was placed on the Jan. 15 agenda, staff received the final payment of $1,100 (check received Jan. 9). Reeve noted publicly available sources indicate the former legislator died Dec. 31.
Reeve recommended that future delinquent repayment matters be handled by following statutory procedures and the Rules of Procedure, including referral to a formal hearing rather than extended informal collection efforts; Chair Anderson agreed and suggested the committee may wish to consider this issue in future cases involving significant monetary findings.
The committee also noted that several staff report items were removed from the agenda because requested changes to benefit‑loan disclosures would not be implemented for 2025–2026 due to staffing and operational constraints; publications including the 2025 Public Decisions Booklet and updated 2026 Standards of Conduct Handbook have been distributed to legislative offices and will be included in member binders.
