Board approves student absences for competition and mission trip; Roberts Community Foundation donates $2,250 to school programs

At its Jan. 15 meeting the Roberts School District board approved two student absence requests and recorded a donation from the Roberts Community Foundation (RCF).
Student Molly Mitchell requested four additional absence days to travel to Camp Perry, Ohio, for the Air Nationals shooting competition; Vice Chair Nick Dobbel moved to approve the request, Michael Bissonnette seconded, and the board approved the four days unanimously.
Students Abigail Swansborough and Tabitha Swansborough requested additional days to participate in a mission trip to Honduras in March. The minutes record that "the mission team will be providing medical services, construction, and Vacation Bible School," and Superintendent Ator recommended approving three additional days to cover unforeseen circumstances. Trustee Joel Bertolino moved and Trustee Michael Bissonnette seconded a motion to approve up to five additional absence days for the two students. The motion carried with Trustees Dobbel, Bertolino, Bissonnette and Norman voting yes and Chair Michelle Swansborough abstaining because of a conflict of interest.
In public comment, Patti Keebler told the board the Roberts Community Foundation, established in 1997, had provided a letter and chart of items it would like the board to consider on a future agenda. Keebler presented two checks to the district: $250 for a gym banner and $2,000 to provide snacks for classrooms and after‑school extracurricular activities.
Next steps: the district will record the donations and integrate the approved absences into attendance records; the RCF requested future agenda consideration for additional projects.
