Superintendent Zandra McDonald updated the Natchez‑Adams School District board at its Sept. 19 meeting on the district's accountability ratings and near‑term federal funding deadlines.
McDonald reported school‑level accountability grades: McLaurin Elementary — B; Morgantown Elementary — B; West Elementary — C; Natchez Middle — D; Natchez Early College/Natchez High — C; and the overall district rating as C with a score of 590. She said the minimum score for a B is 599, so the district is nine points short. She noted historical context that the district scored 527 (a D) in 2019 and described ongoing reorganization and system‑based approaches — including professional learning communities and clarified goals — intended to improve results.
McDonald also presented ESSER III expenditures for August 2024 and reminded the board that ESSER III funding ends Dec. 30, 2024, and must be obligated by Sept. 30, 2024. She said staff are working on aligning resources and simplifying a Pre‑K through 12 vision to raise performance.
Vice President Phillip West commended teachers, students and administrators for the year‑to‑date improvements and noted considerations such as students with IEPs and socioeconomic factors in evaluating progress. The superintendent said the district is reorganizing in stages and that the leadership team is working to position the district for higher ratings.
