Natchez-Adams Board upholds two disciplinary appeals and approves two zone transfers

The Natchez-Adams School District Board of Trustees met in a special-called session Aug. 20, 2024, at the Braden Administrative Building in Natchez and voted unanimously to uphold two disciplinary appeals and to approve two student zone transfers.
Board President Amos James Jr. called the meeting to order at 3:08 p.m. After roll call recorded four trustees present — Secretary LLJuna Grennell Weir (attending by Zoom and arriving on site at 3:16 p.m.), Assistant Secretary Dr. Brenda Robinson, and Member Dr. Cecile Dianne Bunch — the board approved the agenda as printed on a 4-0 roll call vote with Vice President Phillip West absent. Dr. Brenda Robinson moved to approve the agenda and Dr. Cecile Dianne Bunch seconded.
Board members then moved to determine whether to enter closed session. Dr. Cecile Dianne Bunch moved, and Dr. Brenda Robinson seconded, a motion to enter closed session to decide whether the board should go into executive session; the motion carried 4-0. The board determined to enter executive session to discuss student matters and directed President Amos James Jr. to notify the public of that purpose.
After executive-session consideration of student matters, the board took formal votes in open session. The board voted to uphold the superintendent’s recommendation in two disciplinary appeals recorded in the minutes as AUG1 (CP) and AUG2 (JB). Each motion to "Uphold the Superintendent's Recommendation" was moved by LLJuna Grennell Weir and seconded by Dr. Cecile Dianne Bunch and passed by roll call vote 4-0. The minutes record no votes against and list Phillip West as absent.
The board also approved two zone transfers by motion of Dr. Cecile Dianne Bunch with a second from LLJuna Grennell Weir. The transfers recorded in the minutes were AUG1 (HM), approved to transfer from Franklin County to the Natchez-Adams School District because the parent is a district employee, and AUG2 (RT), approved to transfer from Natchez-Adams to Franklin County. Both motions passed by roll call vote 4-0.
The board returned to open session by motion, then adjourned at 3:55 p.m. The minutes list no public attendees, and administrative staff present included Superintendent Zandra McDonald and directors Ernest Fields and Cleveland Moore; clerical support was provided by Lekita Davis.
