Students, athletics and administrators highlighted at Bertrand Public Schools board meeting

BERTRAND, Neb. — The Bertrand Public Schools Board paused routine business during its Feb. 9 meeting to recognize student work and hear administrator reports about activities and upcoming events.
During the Celebration of Excellence the board recognized Avery Krietman for a movie trailer about the capture of Moctezuma II by the Spanish. The board also acknowledged a power equipment class team (Chris Hock, Brayden Evans, Derek Potter, Kevin Chavez, Wyatt McCain, Rodrigo Estrada and Rylan Renken) for getting a 1968 Ford 428 engine running after about three months of work.
Athletic Director Craig Newcomb reported liaison updates from Colby Gardine and Addison Andersen regarding outdoor ideas near the school and provided updates on track, golf, speech and RPAC art honors. Principal Steve Bristol briefed the board on upcoming parent–teacher conferences, recent high school quiz bowl success and plans to host elementary, middle and high school quiz bowl events at Bertrand, and gave transportation committee and concrete-work updates.
Superintendent Nicole LeClaire reported on student learning and achievements, said all positions have been filled, noted grants the district has received, and announced a Hometown Career Fair scheduled for Feb. 25. She also outlined upcoming professional development opportunities, policy and compliance matters, preschool enrollment numbers and assessment dates, and reviewed district goals and priorities.
The reports were routine informational items; no formal board action was recorded on the presentations themselves. The board’s next regular meeting is March 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
