Parent raises concern about student injury notifications; safety committee reports bad lead test and fixture turned off

During public comment at the March 19 Roberts School District meeting, Tiana Rivera urged the board to improve communication with parents about student injuries and suggested that incident reports be sent home; Superintendent Alex Ator asked Rivera to meet with him to determine where reporting broke down.
Katie Day, a paraprofessional, told the board she is working with a grant writer from the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation on an application for a community garden and wanted the board informed of the impending submission. Trustee Brad Norman reported the Discipline Committee is nearly finished with its work.
Safety Committee member Peter Wisniewski told trustees that one lead test returned a bad result; the district has turned off the faucet that failed the test and plans to replace more emergency lights. Those facility updates were presented as committee business rather than actions requiring immediate board votes.
Separately, Ator read a letter from the Roberts Community Foundation requesting the board consider, in April or May, six community-support items including a community clean-up day, new tree lights for the school, a back-to-school picnic funded by RCF, planning for a permanent U.S. flag and monument on school grounds, pursuing grants for additional solar panels, and time to present scholarship and volunteer opportunities during the school day.
What’s next: Ator will meet with Rivera to investigate the incident-reporting concern; the district will keep the board apprised of the lead remediation steps and committee recommendations. The board postponed a policy review to a future meeting and did not take immediate binding action on the community foundation requests beyond scheduling future discussion.
