Director reports gains on state assessments and previews July 30 inservice

Mister Beauchamp told the board that district achievement data show multiple high school subjects "anywhere from 11 to 16.9% above the state average," and cited specific improvements: grade 4 ELA rose 5.9 percentage points, grade 8 ELA rose 4.1, grade 4 math rose 6.9 and algebra 2 rose 7.4 over the previous year. He also said English II scores for students with disabilities increased "31.3" percentage points.
Beauchamp updated the board on a calendar correction related to parent'teacher conference dates and said the district contacted the Henderson County Fire Association to clarify scheduling; the district will not penalize parents who had legitimate, preexisting plans. He also described inservice plans: countywide inservice begins July 30 at 7:00 a.m. at the First Pentecostal Church with a welcome address, a student group performance and a keynote by Larry Bell at 8:30 a.m., followed by targeted workshops for teachers.
The director said further achievement and federal accountability data will follow as the district receives more detailed reports. No additional funding or staffing changes were announced at the meeting.
