Park commission objects to Senior Center plan changes, seeks role in design

Commissioners reported that Park and Recreation’s requests to include bathroom access for park users, a water source for the community gardens, and an entrance road separate from the shared church driveway were eliminated from the proposed Senior Center plans for Colonial Park. Commissioners emphasized that even with a new Senior Center the adjacent area would remain a park and expressed concern about lost field use and access for park patrons.
Fran Frattini suggested that Park and Recreation have a representative on the Senior Center Building Committee to ensure park needs are considered; that request was denied. The commission agreed it must make clear which park elements are essential to retain and how the remaining park area should be managed. Patrick Dillett will draft a letter outlining Park and Recreation’s concerns for the commission’s review and subsequent submission to the Building Committee.
