John Wrenn shared a letter from Holiday Point resident David Weider expressing continuing opposition to proposed dock expansion south of the Town Park beach, citing safety concerns for non-motorized water uses. Commissioners noted there is currently no plan to include boat slips south of the beach.
The commission recapped a recent Board of Selectmen (BOS) special meeting with the Candlewood Lake Authority (CLA) about sharing existing CLA slip space; CLA staff indicated CLAMP appears to be using only one of eight slips and would refer the sharing question to the CLA Board. The commission discussed parking logistics around the CLA office and agreed that town-related parking should be in the Town Park lot with the closer parking area used for drop-off only.
Commissioners reviewed permitting steps and timeline: First Light must review and then submit to FERC; a $10,000 application fee was noted as already approved by the Town, and commissioners observed that FERC approval could take a year or more after submission. The commission suggested asking Don Lowe to invite the town engineer (the engineer working on project drawings) to a Park and Recreation meeting to clarify outstanding design items and help finalize working plans. Commissioners said they want to see the working/final design before taking a more active role in the process.
The commission also discussed the waiting list and options to revisit boat-slip assignment procedures (lottery, residency requirements, assignment length) and agreed to place that topic on a future agenda for further consideration.
