City officials told the Sedan City Council on Feb. 17 that insurance will cover depreciation on the City Hall roof and that the municipal pool has substantial structural problems that may prevent opening this year.
City Clerk Lana Smith said the insurance adjuster met with Ram's Roofing and the insurer will cover depreciation of $11,190.37 minus the $5,000 deductible for a net payment of $6,191.37 toward roof repairs. The council discussed next steps for replacing or repairing the roof as part of ongoing maintenance planning.
Public Works Superintendent Caleb Ironsyde reported that the city's prior water-testing lab is no longer KDHE-compliant and that samples must be sent elsewhere for testing. Ironsyde also said the pool's liner has "about a 10-foot rip" and that the foundation around the pool is sinking; he told the council the city will need to evaluate options and "possibly not be able to open the pool this year." Councilors discussed bringing in a pool specialist for an assessment and exploring grants to cover repair or replacement costs.
On a separate maintenance purchase, Angela Evans moved and Crystal Wade seconded a motion to buy Toyo tires from Main Street Auto at $298.95 per tire; the motion carried 0 Nay to 4 Yay votes.
Council members asked staff to research grant options and engineering assessments to determine repair timelines and budgetary impact. No formal funding decision for the pool repairs was recorded in the minutes.
