Soldier Township approves $286,366 paving contract for Indian Creek Road and orders 600 tons of road salt

The Soldier Township Board on July 8 approved contracting Bettis Asphalt for a $286,366.50 paving project on Indian Creek Road between 46th and 58th and authorized purchase of 600 tons of SnowSlicer salt ahead of next winter.
Road Superintendent John Tipton presented the paving request and said Bettis Asphalt agreed to allow township personnel and trucks to deliver asphalt to the paver to produce cost savings. Member Mike Mathes moved to approve the request; Member Jerry Glasgow seconded and the motion carried.
Tipton also requested purchase of 600 tons of SnowSlicer salt from Central Salt at $87.79 per ton for the upcoming winter season. Member Mathes moved to approve the purchase and Trustee Chad Gerhardt seconded; the motion carried.
Tipton reported the road department completed a two‑inch overlay in June on NW Glenwood Drive, North Hills Drive and Westbrooke Drive in the Hillers subdivision. He also said tree and brush trimming, right‑of‑way mowing, and reporting of noxious weeds to SNCO are ongoing maintenance priorities.
The board did not provide a roll‑call vote tally in the minutes; motions were recorded as carried. Implementation scheduling, stage payments and project start dates will be managed by the road superintendent and staff.
