"As you know, I won my election last week. So, officially, as of tomorrow night at 11:59PM, I will no longer be your mayor," the mayor said during the Nov. 11 meeting. A council member moved to accept that information and the motion carried on a voice vote.
Council members discussed next steps for filling the vacancy. The mayor said an appointment may be made at any time and that, if no one steps forward, the mayor pro tem will legally take over the duties. She also reminded the council that any appointed mayor would still stand in the next scheduled municipal election.
No written requests had been submitted by the meeting date. Councilors agreed to accept written requests when they are received and to consider appointment options during upcoming meetings. The office will temporarily be handled according to the city's succession procedure until a formal appointment or election result is final.
