Road superintendent details chip seals, overlay delay and equipment status; mechanic called to active duty

At the Oct. 14 meeting, Road Superintendent John Tipton detailed seasonal work and equipment status for Soldier Township.
Tipton said the road department completed chip sealing on multiple stretches during September, listing work on NE Kincaid Road (NE 46th to NE 62nd), NE Shaffer Road (NE 46th to NE 62nd), NE 74th Street (NE Silver to NE Sherman Road), NW 86th Street (Marple Road to Indian Creek Road) and Calvin Bluffs Road. He said Bettis Construction pushed the final asphalt overlay on Indian Creek Road (NE 46th to NE 62nd) from Oct. 20 to Oct. 27.
The department continues final right-of-way cleanup and snow-removal preparation; pothole rehabilitation will continue while the asphalt plant remains open. Tipton reported the new snowplow has arrived and is at Steelworks to have the plow mounted, and the new dump truck is still expected after year-end. He also noted that the township mechanic, John Lednicky, has been called up for active guard duty and is expected to be unavailable until about June 2026, which may affect maintenance scheduling.
