Fire chief reports 874 calls in 2025; medic truck ready and bond outreach underway

Fire Chief Chad Lady reported department activity and bond-related outreach at the Soldier Township board meeting on Oct. 14.
Chief Lady said the department has run 874 calls for service so far in 2025. He described recent public events tied to the proposed fire-station bond, including a car show, an open house/pinning ceremony and "Coffee with the Crew," and said the department hosted a Kansas State Firefighters Association regional school that drew 25 participants, five of whom were from the department.
Chief Lady reported that the Community Risk Analysis and Standard of Cover documents are in progress; data collection from department systems is complete but the analysis is waiting on GIS data from the Shawnee County GIS Department before it can be finalized. He said a new medic truck is ready to be picked up next Tuesday.
Administrator Audree Guzman outlined communications steps staff has taken related to the bond — yard signs, banners and infographics — and noted a tax appeal for the fire-station lot has been filed with the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals and is awaiting a hearing. Guzman said staff have prepared materials and events to support outreach if the bond measure proceeds to voter consideration.
