Troy committee plans disc-golf pad on newly transferred city property; funding and construction timelines discussed

Selena Smith, a committee member, told the Troy Community Park Committee on June 26 that the group plans to place a disc-golf pad on the parcel the committee believes has transferred to the City of Troy on the west side of Park Street. The committee also discussed timing for an open house or grand opening once the course is complete.

Mary Winder, a committee member, presented the committee’s financial report showing a balance of $3,684.86 and noted that some donations earmarked for the disc-golf course did not appear on the report. Smith said she would check with the District Office and that she already has a $500 donation check from The Bottle Yard to take to the District Office for deposit.

Smith reported that a bill from Logan Merz for signs and baskets has been paid but the committee still expects additional costs for posts and Quikrete. Committee members said contractor Jake Newton contacted Smith on June 12 and is behind on the course pads because of rainy weather but plans to install the pads "fairly soon." The committee did not set a firm completion date.

Luke Terry of Custom Forestry Applications will inspect the native-area planting later this summer for sericea lespedeza; the group said any required spraying would be scheduled after his assessment. The committee also noted $4,000 set aside for the disc-golf course by the Troy Rec Board in addition to a $10,000 allotment to the Park Committee, with deposits expected after the Rec Board’s June 25 tax receipts.

The committee did not take a binding vote to approve construction contracts during the meeting. Members said they will continue coordinating funding reconciliation and contractor scheduling before announcing a grand-opening date.
