The Rantoul City SD 137 board heard introductions of two recommended administrator hires that are pending board approval. The superintendent presented Jessica Lukis as a recommended assistant principal at East Lawn Elementary, noting her 25 years of special-education experience, licensing and a master's in educational leadership. The superintendent also introduced Mignona (last name given as Lungala), who the superintendent said brings 15 years of experience and holds a principal endorsement from the University of Illinois.
Both appointees addressed the board briefly; Mignona spoke in part in her native language to thank the board for the opportunity. The superintendent said the personnel recommendations were included in the consent agenda and were to be approved under compliance with Illinois statutes and district policy should the board adopt the consent motion.
Later in the meeting, a board member announced this would be her last meeting and thanked fellow board members for their service. The superintendent said that once the resignation is provided in writing and is official, state statute sets a timeline for filling the seat by appointment until the next board is seated after the April election (the superintendent characterized that timeline as about 60 days from when the vacancy becomes official). The administration said it would coordinate with the board president on communications and next steps.
The personnel items were part of a consent motion that the board approved during the meeting; the vacancy process will proceed once the resignation is formalized.
