Troy park committee records $10,000 Recreation Board transfer, approves equipment purchase and schedules volunteer work

The Troy Community Park Committee received a financial update at its April 23 meeting: the Recreation Board recently transferred $10,000 into the Park Committee account, bringing the balance to $14,805.24, and indicated it will likely provide an annual allotment of about $2,500 going forward.
Mary Winder presented the report and said she had met with Recreation Board representative Mike Estes to discuss both the allotment and park improvements. The committee agreed to ask Estes to relocate the park’s geocache from outside the shelter house to a spot inside the shelter house to improve accessibility; Winder will coordinate the change.
Committee members discussed maintenance and minor capital needs. The shelter house has been cleaned, and Selena Smith contacted Jim Horner of the City of Troy about restroom cleaning and summer sweeping; the minutes note a mold-like spot on the women’s restroom wall and say Betsy Hinds will attempt treatment with mold-and-mildew spray before involving city staff. The committee unanimously authorized Hinds to purchase a new volleyball net after she prepared a tie-down diagram and noted broken boundary strapping; cabinet straps will secure the storage box lid.
Members also reviewed near-term volunteer activities and events. Community Service Day is scheduled for April 24 (May 1 rain date) with grade-school and high-school student tasks assigned; committee members will bring tools and supervise if available. The committee discussed tree-planting options for fall and asked Denice Franken to check with Gudenkauf Tree Service about costs to relocate a farm-grown tree. Smith will monitor wildflower plantings and ragweed near the native-grass patch; the committee agreed to defer a planned controlled burn for one year to allow wildflowers to establish.
On equipment and publicity, Selena Smith moved to purchase a wireless Bluetooth speaker and microphone for up to $275; the minutes record that Hinds will look for options and report back but do not record a final vote or purchase being completed. The committee also discussed possibly buying a small shed for tool storage and exploring trash-receptacle and kiosk designs for the park.
