Park committee sets plans for Oct. 25 Halloween hayrides with THS students providing spooky stories

The Troy Community Park Committee discussed detailed plans for a Halloween event to be held at the park on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 25. The route will use two wagons that will make two to three hayride rounds depending on attendance, with passengers disembarking at the shelter house to hear spooky stories told by Troy High School speech and drama students.
Courtney Owens agreed to get hot chocolate, glow sticks, trinkets, flashlights and prepare a Halloween basket prize; Jennifer Whetstine agreed to bring candy; Selena Smith agreed to bring stepladders for wagon boarding. The committee said it will place glow sticks on disc-golf baskets so participants can find them and planned for one or two projectors to show spooky projections along the route, plus a microphone, fog machine and decorated pumpkins.
Theresa Root said the THS students would spend about 15 minutes telling stories at the shelter house and could be asked to staff disc-golf basket stations if additional volunteers are available. Mary Winder said she will reserve the 4-H building as a backup indoor space and will ask the city for barricades to block the road through the park during the event.
The committee set its next meeting for Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. at the park to continue event planning and other items.
