Committee plans ragweed mowing and November wildflower seeding in native plot

Selena Smith described plans to control ragweed in the native-plant area and said she will ask Alan Winkel to mow the west edge of the field. Mary Winder reported she researched wildflower seed: Tyler Warner, identified in the minutes as a wildlife biologist, had none; Luke Terry said he might have seed to share this fall; and Winder obtained eight small packets of native wildflower seed from a friend.
The group recommended planting the seeds in November and discussed coordinating mowing and seeding so the new plants have the best chance to establish. Smith also said she may change the planned location for a native-garden project proposed through the Kansas Native Plant Society, moving it from the depression to a different spot within the native area.
No funding source, planting quantities beyond the eight small packets, or a formal volunteer schedule were recorded in the minutes; members said they would follow up at future meetings.
