Troy committee sets June Grand Opening for Fox Trot Fairways disc golf course

The Troy Community Park Committee set Saturday, June 6, 10 a.m.–noon, with a rain date of June 13, for the Grand Opening of the Fox Trot Fairways disc golf course at Troy Community Park. The event will include a demonstration by disc golfer Donnie Dugger at 10:15 a.m. and a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Lentz Express Food Truck is scheduled to sell food at the event. The committee asked that Recreation Board representative Mike Estes postpone making popcorn for the opening so the food truck would not face competition; he offered to make popcorn on July 4 instead.

The committee approved several event-related tasks: Whetstine will produce invitations to mail to donors and sponsors, Hinds will create a Facebook event to publicize the opening, and Winder will place articles in the local newspaper. Hinds is exploring frisbees or disc golf discs to give away with Fox Trot Fairways decals and will report back with cost options. Owens will contact Dugger and Winder will contact a Chamber representative to finalize their roles for the morning’s program.

Committee members also discussed on-course amenities and longer-term programming. Estes agreed to install hooks on disc-golf sign posts to allow players to hang backpacks (Winder will relay Dugger’s preferred hook type). Estes said he would like to gauge interest in an adult summer disc-golf league at the park. The committee did not record any formal vote on those future items; members tasked staff and volunteers to follow up before the event.

The Grand Opening planning was part of broader park business the committee covered at its April 23 meeting, including budget updates and maintenance tasks. The event organizers intend to recognize donors and sponsors during the opening and will finalize logistics in coming weeks.
