Residents urge caution on annexation, raise safety and storm‑shelter concerns

During the public comment portion of the meeting, several Spring Hill residents raised concerns about annexation, development and local infrastructure.

Jon Watterman (21110 W. 186th Terrace) addressed the comprehensive plan and annexations and said he was concerned about year‑round fireworks sales. Alexandra Hatfield (21720 S. Race Street) thanked the council for approving paving at the Community Center but said she did not favor chip seal for the lot; she also expressed opposition to data centers and noted appreciation for storm clean‑up. Michael Clutts (18512 W. 194th Street) praised storm clean‑up efforts, requested a crosswalk at Forrest Spring Middle School, and asked about infrastructure responsibility for a new subdivision across from the high school and the 191st Street corridor. Jamie Cochran (owner, Dan’s Trailer) spoke against data centers and in favor of storm shelters. Lance Caldwell (15275 W. 191st Street) addressed annexation and zoning in the township. Tara Combes (15320 W. 193rd Terrace) expressed opposition to the number of executive sessions. Derek Buckridge (20406 W. 220th Street) raised the threat of emerald ash borer, recommended storm shelters be included as a development standard, and noted traffic concerns with semis near 199th Street.

The council did not take action on these comments during the meeting; several items raised—crosswalks, storm shelters, and annexation policy—would require staff follow‑up and potential future agenda items.
